when my girl turned two, i bought her a scissors. i agree at first, i was nervous with giving my girl scissors.
i showed her how to hold it and provide lots of scrap paper for her to cut across. now she`s three, and i was surprised how quickly she has developed good independent control over her scissors.
i see absolutely nothing wrong with allowing a 2 or 3 year old to have experience with scissors, but obviously when it comes to using scissors, it is best to give toddlers and preschoolers some boundaries ... and yes, that may mean that they'll cut something they shouldn't (like hair) ^_^
when do you introduce scissors to your child ?
do you let your toddler or preschooler use scissors?
do they only do ‘cutting’ with help or do you let them practise independently?

My girl was introduced to scissors at quite an early age. But I admit, I was paranoid initially. As parent, I think we should teach our children the usage and danger of scissors before allowing them to use it independently.
I can't remember whether we did teach my daughter. Perhaps she just picked it up naturally... Ya, some children love to cut hair - their own or their siblings. I don't recall my daughter doing that, praise the Lord!
Mine i let him use those round edge type of scissor but with a watchful eye
I let Ethan practise with scissors at a very young age. I gave him those kiddy scissors that can cut paper but wont harm him too much. I monitored him closely though.
yvonne, agree with u..always under supervision.

I did let my girl use the scissors when she was younger but only kiddy scissors. She uses the scissors many times in school.
Hi there,
I dont let my 2 1/2 year daughter to touch anything that is sharp and thorny. I keep wondering, "Am I being over-protective?"
I guess I just want to have a mess-free time when I take care of them (2 daughters).
Plus, I just delivered a baby. But I think, it's good to introduce scissors to little kids just to let them experience the function of sharp items but I cant afford to watch them as i need to the housechores.
By the way, thanks for visiting my blog recently, feel free to visit me again as i will be uploading new pieces of sleepsacks and multifunction nursing covers.
Regards
Azlin

Akma Azlin, agree with u abt the mess, but what to do ;)
Oh? Can't remember about letting my daughter to use scissors thingy, guess its those round edge. Remembered at age 4 she cut her lower thumb while trying to close my penknife.
